Opportunities are Everywhere

Erik Raymond in a blog post from last week uses the following illustration:
Let’s say you are in the market for a new vehicle. You decide that you want a white van. Do you know what you will see when you are traveling around? White vans. Because white vans are on your mind you suddenly notice them everywhere. If evangelistic opportunities are on your mind—because you are praying for them—then you will see them pop up everywhere.

Raymond's right, I see maroon Honda Odyssey's everywhere because that is our family car. This is a good starting point. Do you see opportunities to share the Gospel or build relationship for the purpose of sharing the Gospel?

I notice in my own daily routine that the more I pray for opportunities to share the Gospel, the more my heart is changed to look for them. The opportunity may have been there all along, the prayer is changing ME. Instead of an idolatrous focus on making my life more comfortable, wealthy and happy, the Holy Spirit works to illuminate a higher calling throughout my day. As Peter says, "You are chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Do you have eyes to see opportunities? Will you proclaim his excellencies? Let's pray together, for each other, and be a people who exist to make much of Jesus and His great Gospel.
