DEATH IN ADAM, LIFE IN CHRIST

Passage: Romans 5:12–21

Two Men – Two Results
Adam: disobedience / imputed sin / condemnation / death
Christ: obedience / imputed righteousness / justification / life

Preliminary Observations:
(1) Adam is a “type” or pattern of Christ (v. 14)
(2) Adam is the father of every person.
(3) Christ is exceedingly superior to Adam.
(4) Christ’s righteousness reaches all kinds of people.
 

1. The consequences of Adam’s sin (v. 12)

2. The reign of death over those in Adam (v. 13-14)

3. The contrast between Adam and Christ (v 15-17)
    A. In Adam, many died; in Christ, grace abounds to many. (15)
    B. Adam brings condemnation; Christ brings justification. (16)
    C. In Adam, death reigns; in Christ, we reign in life. (17)

4. The effect of Christ’s righteous act (v. 18-21)
    A. Justification and life in Christ (18-19)
    B. The superabundant grace leading to eternal life (20-21)
