Who is Jesus?
John 1:1-5

“John’s Gospel is deep enough for an elephant to swim and shallow enough for a child not to drown.” This quote of unknown origin is still true. We begin today our study of the Fourth Gospel. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), tell the story of Jesus in a similar fashion. But John is different. Its great truths are rich in theology, but its message so simple that it’s where a new believer should start reading. Let’s rejoice in John’s great message as we contemplate the question, Who is Jesus?
1. The Eternal Word (1:1)
“In the beginning was the Word . . .
and the Word was with God . . .
and the Word was God.”
2. The Powerful Creator (1:2-3)
“He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
3. The Giver of Life (1:4)
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
4. The Triumphant Light (1:5)
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
