Imagery is powerful

Imagery is powerful. It enhances and sometimes communicates more thoroughly than only words. Jesus uses imagery often in the form of parables. In Luke 15 Jesus uses a parable to communicate how much he cares for and longs to be in right relationship with sinners. When confronted by the Pharisees that he spent time eating with sinners Jesus shared a parable about the length that a shepherd will go to to find the lost sheep.

Luke 15:4&5 What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

Jesus was so serious about finding lost sheep that he spent time with them, and that was shocking to the Pharisees. Let us emulate Jesus in how we seek the lost sheep and in our pursuit to love and shepherd those around us toward the one who can save their souls from eternal destruction!
